Ian Sarfin's 35lb Burger

Adam K from A Hamburger Today told me about this one some time ago, but I wasn't able to find any pictures. Well, I finally managed to track down Ian Sarfin, and he was kind enough to scan in and send me the photos of this massive burger! Even though Ian's Kitchen and Soda Shoppe is no longer open, Ian still continues to cater from home and make these huge burgers. Thanks to Kingston Links for helping me get in touch with Ian, and thanks Ian for the photos! Here's an excerpt from the original article about Ian Sarfin's 35lb burger

[Restaurant owner Ian] Sarfin's creation — which took more than three hours to cook Thursday morning — weighs almost 21 pounds.

"You're looking at an 18-inch diameter bun (and) there's a pound of cheese, there's a pound of onion, there's a pound of pickels, there's two pounds of tomatoes and five cups of sauce," said Sarfin. "Once you add it all together, you're looking at about 30-35 pounds total weight." ...

Sarfin said his hamburger — the equivalent of just over 100 quarter-pounders — is designed to feed 20 or 25 people.

Mmm, mega

So it was hamburger night at home, and I stopped by the Numero Uno market to get some tortillas for general kitchen supply, and I picked up some additional items for burger night, and things kind of got out of hand. See the notes for details on the various layers.

Giant Cake Taco

Not quite a real taco, but looks pretty close to me!

From: http://kimberlychapman.com/crafts/cakes/cakegallery.html#taco

This was made for a friend who enjoys tacos. The taco shell was made with yellow sugarpaste with Oreo crumbs mixed in. Some eating it said they found the "meat" to be "disturbingly realistic."

The 27lb cheesecake

The cheesecake was the brainchild of a man who calls himself Mr Cod-Liver Oil (pictured here), and was constructed as a suprise birthday present for a friend. There are 35 pots of creme cheese in it: unfortunately some of these had to be of the low fat variety, since our local supermarket didn't have enough of the normal full fat type in stock.
