Deep-frying can make any junk food even junkier, but will it taste good? Let’s play around and see! After you whip up some batter (see below), heat three-and-a-half quarts of peanut oil to 350 degrees in a stock pot—or deep fryer if you own one. Slather each food item in the batter, then place in the oil using tongs. Once the batter starts to brown, you’re done.

White Castle Burgers
Start with frozen White Castle burgers. When you deep-fry them, they cook—the cheese melts, and everything. What can you say about White Castle? It’s always good when you have the munchies, and deep-fried, it’s twice the satisfaction.

Microwavable Pizza
The pizza’s bread crust soaks up a lot of oil, making it taste incredibly oily and not good at all. I don’t recommend deep-frying pizza.

Test Subject No. 3
Hard-boiled Eggs
Delicious. They taste like fried eggs. The battered outside is like bread, so it’s like eating fried eggs with buttered toast. These are similar to Scottish eggs, which are hard-boiled eggs that have been breaded, deep-fried and wrapped in sausage meat.

Gummy Worms
I don’t like the rubberiness of gummy worms, but deep-frying makes them crunchy. The batter also makes them less sweet than actual gummy worms, so it works really well.

Chocolate Chip Cookie-Dough
Be sure to use cookie dough that’s safe to eat raw. Tubes are usually fine. Use pasteurized eggs or Egg Beaters if you make your own dough. Deep-fried, it tastes like freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, only ten times better—the best of all our tests.
